Issue No. 18 • Spring 2017

In the summer of 2012, I went to a small town of Yunnan, an underdeveloped area near Burma. With other thirty volunteers from the U.S., we went to the local school and helped to teach the students who were interested to meet strangers, especially foreigners. On the other hand, the volunteer teachers from the U.S. were very curious to the rural culture. We stayed there for two years, helped the neighborhood, and also helped each other. The students knew a lot about the world outside from us, some of them got inspired and went for higher education, some of them quit the school and explored the world on their own way which is so common to see in the China society now: Dagong- go far from home to making money for their dream.
